Mountain Melodies and the
American Cancer Society

Colville - 2004
This was the second year for the Melodies to take part in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
- Last year, for the first time in Colville Relay history, it rained. This year, it didn't rain until Saturday morning.
Activities began with the march of the Cancer Survivors, their families, and finally, the teams, led by the local Boy Scout Flag carriers and a bagpipe Marching band from Canada. It is truly a moving ceremony as people applaud the survivors.
The Melodies had a large tent in case it rained, or someone needed to stretch out, and an awning-gazebo provided by the director, Judy Estep. The awning tried to blow away once or twice during the blustery weather, but it held up OK.
Ah, the happy crew...waiting to start walking
Of course there were a number of luminaria placed out for Liz Bocker, one of the founders of the Chorus. We miss her alot.
It was not a very warm evening, but the sunset, with the candle-lit luminaria going, was absolutely spectacular.
Everyone hunkered down and kept warm. Visiting went on all night, as did walking (well, pretty nearly...)...and sunrise saw a group of huddled figures under the awning, looking forward to the morning's performance of music.
Some of the walkers were having fun as they walked. These "Relays" are just full of fun...
Of COURSE
it began to rain...but sing we did...
