(I am looking for anyone who could translate and e-mail me an English of version
some the town's history.) dennis@baunach.com

the town of BAUNACH
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Bamberg
(until 1973 Ebern)

Origin/Meaning:
Baunach received city rights in 1328 from Emperor Ludwig of Bayern. The town
never really developed to a real city for many centuries. The arms were granted
on July 15, 1477 by Anton of Rotenhahn, Bishop of Bamberg. The oldest seal dates
from the 16th century and thus shows already the present arms. The arms show the
rivers Baunach, Lauter and Itz that run through the municipality and and who
merge just before flowing into the Main. The pike is a symbol for the many fish
found in the river. The green colour of the arms was replaced in the early 1980s
by the present red field.
